The Sleepless Night 1/22/2025

It was 6:30 a.m. when I woke up—a full two hours earlier than usual. As soon as I realized I was really awake, I did what I always do: I checked in with my body to figure out why I was awake.

I was too hot. Easy fix—I adjusted the bedding and settled back down. But I still couldn’t sleep. Something felt off. I checked in with myself again and realized I was in pain. Oh, and my mind? Racing like a hamster on a wheel, thinking about absolutely nothing productive.

I knew I wasn’t getting back to sleep anytime soon, so I got up and headed to the living room to sit in one of my recliners.

Trying to Reset

I decided to meditate, hoping to calm my mind and body. I did some Reiki on myself and checked in with my energy centers (aka, my Energy Rainbow). And guess what? All seven were completely out of whack! What the actual fuck?

My brain wasn’t settling down, my thoughts were zooming, and nothing was clicking into place. Frustrated, I paused and asked myself, What do I need right now? The answer came clearly: Ibuprofen and a shower.

So, I took the ibuprofen and hopped in the shower. As I went through my usual routine, I tried meditating again. It worked a little better this time, but I could tell something still wasn’t right. I focused on my crown energy center, hoping to get things flowing. Nothing. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks: When everything is off, you start at the bottom. Duh.

The Root of the Problem

That’s what I always do with my clients, and it’s what I needed to do for myself. I checked in with my root energy center and asked, Am I safe?

The answer? “NO!” And then Donald Trump’s face popped into my head.

Oh, SHIT.

I suddenly knew what was wrong. A couple of days earlier, I’d read his inauguration speech transcript, and it disturbed me deeply. Last night, I went down a rabbit hole, reading about his executive orders. One of my former clients even reached out, upset because her work was being affected by these policies. All of that energy had stayed with me, festering below the surface.

Reclaiming My Balance

I took a deep breath and told myself: I am my own person. I am safe.

My brain wasn’t buying it. So I tried again: Just for today, I am safe. That felt better.

I kept going:

  • I am safe in my home.
  • I am safe in my body.
  • I am safe in this moment.

Slowly, the tension started to ease. I checked in with my energy centers again, moving from root to crown. This time, they were all working. Balance restored.

3 Tips for Resetting Your Energy

  1. Start at the Root: When everything feels off, focus on your root energy center first. Ask yourself: Do I feel safe? Grounding is essential before moving up.
  2. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to physical sensations and emotional cues. Your body will often tell you exactly what it needs—whether that’s rest, movement, or a shower.
  3. Use Affirmations: Create simple affirmations that your brain can accept. If “I am safe” feels too far-fetched, try “Just for today, I am safe.” Adjust them until they resonate.
